Swimming

This term, most of the school has been going to the YMCA Aquatic Center for swimming lessons for the past week, and this is the second week. As I walked into the pools, I smelt the scent of chlorine. I quickly blocked my nose with a feeling of nervous excitement.

Walking into the changing rooms, I took a spot where no one could really see me. As I grabbed my togs out of my plastic bag, I heard the sound of it rustling. With ease, slipped into my togs and hopped into the warm shower for a quick rinse and walked out of the changing rooms with a cold shock.

Hopping into the frigid pool, I quickly jumped under the water to get warmer. Our swimming instructor told us to swim two lengths of warm up kicking. Rapidly swimming, splashes from the person in front of me, went into my eyes. My eyes were stinging with pain. Besides that, I used my legs for fast movement, beating mostly everybody else.

Our instructor then told us to choose our own technique to swim with. We had to use that technique to swim another two or three lengths of the 33.33 metre pool. My choice was the dolphin tail. This style of swimming made me kind of look like a mermaid! As I started swimming, I dived down to the pool floor with ease. Easily tired and worn out, I couldn’t breath. Swimming up to the surface of the water, I felt buoyant. After taking a long deep breath, I could then finish off the rest of the pool.

Swimming was, and is REALLY fun! It gives us a chance to learn how to become better at swimming, to survive if something bad happens. Swimming is a life saver!
